Trade Fairs in North Rhine-Westphalia

With the three major exhibition venues in Cologne, Düsseldorf, and Essen, and hosting international leading trade fairs, North Rhine-Westphalia is one of the world’s largest and most important trade fair locations.

NRW makes Germany the number one trade fair location in the international comparison. With the three major exhibition venues in Cologne, Düsseldorf, and Essen, North Rhine-Westphalia is one of the world’s largest trade fair locations – surpassing Hanover, Frankfurt am Main, Valencia, Milan, Paris, and Chicago.

Six million visitors from around the world come to NRW annually to make and maintain contacts at one of the 100 international leading trade fairs or to learn about innovations and trends in an industry. Thanks to the excellent infrastructure of the state, including the two major airports in Düsseldorf and Cologne/Bonn, its central location, and the dense network of highways and railways, world-leading trade fairs such as Drupa, Boot, Anuga, and photokina have been permanently established here. Large public fairs like Gamescom and the International Game Days SPIEL have also been held in NRW for years.

Additionally, the trade fair location NRW has a long tradition. Today, international industry meetings here attract around 700,000 visitors annually. The trade fair grounds in Cologne-Deutz, opened in 1924, are now the world’s fifth-largest trade fair venue and will be further expanded and modernized in the coming years under the Koelnmesse 3.0 project.

The Essen trade fair is also being expanded into one of the most technically modern trade fair venues in Germany. It already ranks among the top ten in Germany with 50 trade fairs and exhibitions and 1.4 million visitors annually. Equally many guests, about one-third of whom come from abroad, attend the Düsseldorf trade fair each year, which hosts two of the largest public fairs in the country: Boot and Caravan Salon.
